Citizens for Juvenile Justice is interested in acting as the sponsoring organization for a post graduate fellowship such as Skadden, Equal Justice Works or others. CfJJ seeks third-year law students, law school graduates or graduate students to apply for one or two years of fellowship funding to work at CfJJ on a number of legislative and policy initiatives. We welcome applicants who are interested in working on a project in any of the following areas:

School to Prison Pipeline

Advocacy to disrupt and dismantle the school to prison pipeline on a municipal and state level by advancing policies that reduce the overreliance on school exclusion, school policing and school hardening and supporting those that increase supports and services that address student’s social, emotional, behavioral and academic needs.

Racial and Ethnic Disparities

Advocacy to address and reduce the disproportionate treatment of youth of color in the juvenile justice system on the local and statewide level.

Multi-System Youth Issues

Advocate for youth impacted by school discipline, child welfare or immigration issues in addition to juvenile justice involvement.

Emerging Adult Justice Reform

Advocacy to raise the age of juvenile court jurisdiction up to age 21 and to ensure that youth in this age group in the adult criminal justice system group receive services, supports and accommodations similar to youth in the juvenile justice system.

Diversion from Juvenile Justice Involvement

Ensuring that cities and towns across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts have adequate and appropriate diversionary options to prevent youth from entering the juvenile justice system unnecessarily, and that those opportunities are provided to youth in a fair and non-discriminatory manner.

Enhanced Data and Transparency from the Criminal and Juvenile Justice System

Advocating on the state and municipal level to ensure that comprehensive data on youth at every decision point of the juvenile and criminal justice system is available, and that said data is disaggregated by race/ethnicity, gender and other criteria to ensure fair treatment for all youth and that decisions are aligned with evidence based practices and positive outcomes.
