MA Statewide School Discipline Tableau
This dashboard serves as a tool for analyzing school discipline data across all Massachusetts school districts, segmented by race and by needs. The dashboard can be filtered to any school district in Massachusetts. More information, such as the total number of students enrolled in a population, may be found by hovering over a bar on the dashboard.
The top-left chart compares the racial breakdown of all enrolled students to the racial breakdown of all disciplined students within a certain school district for the 2022-23 school year. The top-right chart examines the rates of discipline within four different needs groups, which are defined by DESE as follows:
English Learners: "A student whose first language is a language other than English who is unable to perform ordinary classroom work in English."
Students with Disabilities: A student who has an Individualized Education Program.
Low-Income Students: A student that is either eligible for free/reduced lunch prices, eligible for food stamps, or receives Transitional Aid to Families benefits.
High Needs: A student who falls into any one of the previous three categories.
The chart on the bottom shows enrolled students' discipline rates, broken down by race.
